My Journal

LuLaRoe Heather O'Boyle

You've heard of LuLaRoe, right?  If you haven't, legit, what rock are you living under?  This stuff is everywhere!  Facebook live sales, in home pop-ups, Ebay, Periscope, Instagram. Everywhere!  It's leggings.  Leggings.  No really, lots and lots of leggings with crazy, wow, types of patterns.  When first exposed to this leggings business I was skeptical.  I'm a girl, one that lacks the general skill of knowing how to be a girl.  Mention mascara, lipstick, high heels, and general fashion and my hearts start racing.  I'm a fish out of water to put it mildly.  I learned how to braid my hair at the age of 34.  I was raised with boys.  When most girls were reading Seventeen I was changing the oil in my 81 Ford 3 speed on the tree.  When my friends wanted me to play field hockey in high school, I wouldn't.  Because, skirt.  So, leggings.  Sweaty palms.  Leggings, I'm out.

You're wondering why this is all relevant.  After all this is my business page.  But sometimes business is personal.  (Well, it's always personal for me).

The first pair of leggings I bought, O.K. the first two pairs of leggings I bought were a classic and safe dinosaur print.  Rapetosaurus.  Raise with boys.  I felt safe with this purchase.  Shortly after said purchase one of my very best friends became a LuLaRoe fashion consultant.  I had a party.  I bought a dress.  A Julia.  I don't were dresses.  I wore it with 15 year old red chucks and a utility jacket.  So fashion forward of me.  I wear this dress all the time.  Confession, I now have 9 Julias.  I don't wear dresses.  I wear them all the time.  With leggings.  Who am I?

LuLaRoe might feel like just another fad stay at home mom business.  But for some it is changing lives.  Some might question the approach, sales, tactics, and quality.  Others might thrive on the interaction with other women.  I was skeptical, very skeptical, but this was before I knew the WHY.  Why would one of my very best friends choose to embark on this journey?

This.  This is why.  For Heather, LuLaRoe is about confidence.  It is about self love.  Honoring yourself.  Being true to yourself and true to others.  For Heather, LuLaRoe is about supporting women.  It is about supporting their self confidence, self love, how they feel and how they look.  It is about guiding a woman, terrified to try something new, to finding a new dress, leggings, or a top.  It is about watching that woman walk away with the confidence of "WOW, I look beautiful in this, but oh my WOW, I FEEL beautiful in this".

This seems basic, but for most women, it is not.  Self confidence and self love is unfortunately not something we are taught in kindergarten.  It is not something that grows without constant nurturing and it is not something that flourishes without lots and lots of practice.  But this feeling is strengthened and reinforced when it comes from genuine, authentic, and loving women.  It comes from women supporting women.

This.  This is why.  This might seem blah. Meh.  This might not seem genuine.  But I can assure you that it is.  I have seem a woman walk out of the bathroom wearing a dress (one that she was terrified to even try on, one that was way out of her comfort zone) and hear an audible gasps from other women.  Gasps from how gorgeous, confident, and comfortable she looks.  I've heard women supporting women.  "OMG, you neeeeeed to get that dress."  "That looks simply stunning."  I've seen this same woman, cry.  Cry, because it was the first time she felt gorgeous, confident, and comfortable in a dress.  This is when I fell in love with supporting Heather and her dream.

So without further a do...

These are only a few of my favorites of Heather and our wonderful shoot that day.  It was filled with laughter, silliness, encouragement, confidence, more laughing, love, and women supporting women.  This, I will always believe in and support.

Thank you Heather for including me in your journey!
