HOLLAND STRONG

Hollandstrong Fishing Derby 2017

For the second year in a row I've had the privilege to be a small part of the Hollandstrong Ice Fishing Derby on Round Pond in Livermore, Maine.  This small community rallies big around Deb Roberts, family, and friends in support of Michael Holland.  Michael Holland was tragically lost at sea when the cargo ship El Faro sank off the coast of the Bahamas during Hurricane Joaquin on October 1, 2015.  You can get a quick glimpse of the impact Mike made on the lives he touched  from the cars and trucks lining the road, the pond that littered with ice shacks, and ice traps.  The pond is covered with family, friends, strangers, and students from Maine Maritime Academy all out in support.

Proceeds from the derby benefit the Hollandstrong Scholarship which helps support graduating high school seniors choosing to pursue higher education in engineering, machine tool, or automotive mechanic programs.  Students must be from Mt. Blue High School in Farmington, ME; Spruce Mountain High School in Jay, ME; or Leavitt Area High School in Turner, ME.

Here is just a small sample of images from todays events and winners of the derby.

Thank you for reading, for those that participated today, in the past, or will in the future, thank you for supporting this very unique and supportive family.  YOU are HOLLANDSTRONG!  For more information on the Holland Strong Scholarship please see the link below.
